What stays on your phone

Your device holds your collection, your plant photos, your watering history, your reminders and your settings. Nothing leaves it until you turn on cloud backup. Deleting the app deletes that data with it, so export it first if you want to keep it.

What we receive, and why

An anonymous device identifier. The app generates a random string the first time you open it. We count your free identifications for the month against that string, and recognise a purchase by it. It is not your advertising ID and not your phone number.

Plant photos, for a few seconds. Identifying a plant sends your photo to be recognised, and that is the whole of its journey. We keep no copy of the photo. We store the species names that came back and the anonymous device identifier, so we can measure how often the app gets it wrong.

Plant details for the watering estimate. When you add a plant, we use its species, pot size, light level and soil state to work out the first watering window and the explanation you read on the plant page. We send no photo and nothing about you.

Your email address, if you create an account. An account exists to back up your collection, and nothing else. We send your sign-in code to that address. We store no password and we will not write to you with offers.

Purchase information. If you subscribe, Apple or Google takes the payment and tells us whether your subscription is active. Your card details never reach us.

Cloud backup, if you turn it on

Backup costs nothing and stays off until you turn it on. Once on, we copy your collection, watering history and soil checks to our database, so you can restore them on a new phone. We do not upload your photos. They stay on the device, and so do your preferences.

Who else touches your data

We work with a small number of service providers to run the app: one identifies the plant in your photo, one hosts our servers and your backup, one handles the subscription, and one delivers your sign-in email. They may only use what we send them to perform that job for us. Write to us if you want the current list by name.

We do not sell your data. The app ships without any analytics or advertising SDK.

Children

We do not aim Vivaz at children, and we collect no data from anyone under 13.

Your choices

Delete your account. Settings → your account → delete. This erases your account and everything synced to the cloud. The collection on your phone is untouched.

Export everything. Settings → export. Your plants and watering history as CSV, with your photos.

Skip all of it. Without an account, the only thing that leaves your device is a photo you chose to identify.

When this policy changes in a way that affects you, we update the date above and describe the change in the release notes.
